What is Adjournment?

Adjournment:

Legally speaking, adjournment means to shift or postpone the proceeding of a legislative business or hearing of a case by a court for a later time or date. The primary objective of the motion for adjournment which is usually moved or administered by a member of the House or Court is to draw the attention of the House or Court to a recent matter of urgent public importance.

A Court can also adjourn a suit or a case for different reasons such as logistics/technical reasons, procedural irregularities, unavailability of counsel, lack of evidence etc.
