Meaning of Autarchy by Andrew O. Eze

AUTARCHY:

Autarchy is the quality of being self-sufficient. It is used to describe a situation in which a country is completely independent from others economically, politically and the like. Another name for autarchy is “closed economic system”.

Contemporarily, this type of economic cum political system is no longer relevant in international affairs. This is because at this age of globalization, no nation can be self-sufficient enough to need no relationship with other countries. The policy of autarchy was more pronounced in the 17th and 18th centuries during the era of mercantilism. (See mercantilism).
